A few years ago I had a bad eye infection – both of my eyes were in pain and red for months. The doctors couldn’t find the cause of it so they just keep scheduling future appointments for me. My eyes eventually healed by themselves and I couldn’t stop thinking about what caused the problem.

The mystery was finally solved after one day I read an article pointing out that the contact lens container should be replaced after being used for 3 -4 months. I don’t usually use contact lens container and only wear daily contact lens about 8 -10 times a year. But the day before the infection, I took out my daily contact lens and put them in my old contact lens container for quite a long time before putting them back on again. We all know everything has a lifespan but how often do we stick to the guidelines? For your health’s sake, do an audit of your everyday items as part of your spring cleaning and toss all these “old stuff”. Don’t be like me, only learning the lesson after suffering from serious pain and expensive medical bills.

Here’s a general guide to the average lifespan of your everyday items:

Tooth brush: 3 -4 months

Contact lens container: 3 -4 months

Towels: 2 -4 months

Pillows: 1 year

I’m someone who’s used to (and good at) working with tight deadlines. When it comes to clients’ work, I’m always organised and on top of things.

But I don’t apply the same discipline with my personal life. I’d postpone cleaning up my garage for weeks and weeks. It seems I’ll never finish reading that book I started 2 months ago. It’s been a long time and I still haven’t started to write that article for the Huffington Post.. Such things I’ve been intending to do but never really made time to start or finish. All of that leads to disappointment. Yes I feel disappointed about my slackness with my personal matters.

So from now on I’ll be more strict with deadlines on my personal “to do list”. Put a deadline on everything that I’m planning to do outside work and review my progress periodically.

I’d be very happy to see a clean and tidy garage soon!

Like The British Museum in London, The Metropolitan Museum of Art is a place that I would go back to visit again and again. The Met also has amazingly large Egyptian and Asian Art collections.

Here are a few photos from my visit to The Metropolitan Museum of Art back in 2013, giving a glimpse into the Met’s glorious collection of over 5000 years of art.

While there is plenty for you to do if you are going to spend four or five days or a week or more in London, for those that might only be coming to the city for a night or two you want to make the most of what little time you may have to do something. One of the real draws in London is getting the chance to go to the West End and take in one of the great musicals or plays that are currently running. Going to a show like this may be something you have never had the chance to experience before so it can be something new and exciting. You can make your night in London special by seeing a show at staying at one of the hotels near Theatreland to really make it a grand experience.

At any given time there may be up to forty different shows playing in the Theatreland area in London. You can choose from famous shows that have had long runs in the area, musicals where you know all the words to the songs, famous plays starring world-famous actors of the stage and screen and little-known gems that can open your eyes to a whole new world of comedy or drama. As fantastic as the different shows can be for you to see, even just stepping foot into some of the historic theatres in the area can be a big thrill for you. Many of the theaters are older and date back to the Victorian era, making them historical sites of their own just so you can see the history and architecture of the buildings.

If you are coming into the city to see a show it is always a good idea to make a special night complete by staying at one of the bed and breakfast hotels in Victoria London. This will keep you right in the area of Theatreland so that you can easily walk to the show you are planning to see without worrying about getting a taxi or finding a way to get to where you want to go. You can start your day early and have a wonderful dinner at one of the great restaurants in the area, go to see your show, walk back and have a drink at a local pub, then return to your hotel for a comfortable night of sleep before getting on your way the next day.

If you want to create a great day in London and are looking at the hotels in Theatreland London, check out the Best Western Victoria Palace as a place to stay. The Best Western Victoria Palace is in the ideal location so that you can easily get to any of the great theatres in the area, have a nice play to stay and do it all without spending a fortune on a hotel in this part of the city.

Most of my girlfriends maintain a very healthy life style – they excise vigorously everyday and really watch what they eat. I, on the hand, don’t like exercise & always eat until I’m about to explode. Yes, I’m lazy and lack of will power.

I used to get away with it and thought everyone should take it easy on themselves. Why work so hard? But wait.

Years on, it started to catch up with me. I couldn’t fit in any of my clothes any more. I feel tired all the time. My ageing mum could carry more weight than me.

I’m bloated, always overly bloated – my belly looks like a balloon all the time! What about people who’ve always exercised and ate sensibly? – They are fit, healthy and move around like ballerinas.

Time for a permanent change. Maybe exercise could eventually become a habit.

In the past 4 days, I’ve been doing plank and yoga stretches in the morning as well as having a smaller dinner everyday. Needless to say, at 7am this morning I felt depressed to find out that I actually weighted more than 5 days ago. So what’s the point of trying? I went back to bed, ready to give up my morning exercise forever. You see, I’m that kind of person. Whenever there’s a problem, I’d go for a snack, or a nap.

After staying in bed for another 30 minutes feeling depressed, I started to see my pattern clearly: Instead of dealing with problems (even the slightest), I simply gave up quickly. Always give up at the first sign of difficulty and never really achieve anything.

“Give it a chance! Only 4 days & you want to see immediate result? Remember you tried to have more patience?” Feeling annoyed by myself, I got the energy to get up and went through the morning routine.

For someone who doesn’t do much apart from sitting or lying in bed, little morning exercise could do wonders. I felt happier and energised. Most importantly, I’ll always remind myself to never give up at the first sign of difficulty, not even the 2nd, 3rd or 4th…

Shake Shack just opened its 100th location in the world this month – on 16th August 2016, in Boston. It reminded me the first time I tried Shake Shack in New York a few years ago. It was a warm autumn night in Manhattan and I was starting to feel peckish after a day’s exploring in the city. Looking out for somewhere to sit down and have a bite to eat randomly, Shake Shack really stood out in the dark.

From the distance, it looked like a fancy restaurant with elegant glass windows, warm, inviting lights and a catchy name: Shake Shack. That was the first time I’d heard of the name, “Shake Shack”. Out of curiosity, we went into the glass doors to check out what food they had. It turned out to be some sort of burger place, but popular burgers – you could tell from the long queue. It proved to be a good choice. I loved the Pickled Jalapeno burger, the milk shake and those crispy crinkle-cut chips. Oh, also loved having a beer while gazing out those glass windows.

shake shack in new york

A couple of years after I first tried Shake Shack in New York, the company went on public. Obviously it’s become more and more popular over the years. Hopefully one day they’ll open a chain store in Sydney but Shack Shack is so New York. If you are visiting New York the first time, try Shake Shack there. Here are 7 reasons why you must try Shake Shack in New York:

mmexport14713151306641.Tasty food. Burgers at Shake Shack are definitely not boring. The company keeps developing new menus and I love the old favourite pickled Jalapeno burger. Clearly your first choice if you want some punchy flavour in your burger.

mmexport14713158768792. Enjoyable dining environment. Like I mentioned before, Shake Shake chain restaurants look a lot fancier than your average fast food restaurant. Their logo is green and white and every chain restaurant has been decorated with a “fine dinning” feel to it.

mmexport1471315545512

3. People are always queuing up for Shake Shack. It’s so not your typical fast food. You’ll have to wait for your food at Shake Shack. Seems that people are happy to wait, no matter how long the queue is. One thing for sure, you’ll never want to eat in an empty restaurant  during peak hours. If people are always happy to wait at Shake Shack, they must have done something right.

mmexport14713158963134. Shake Shack emphasizes its “use of all natural 100% angus beef only and that its meat is completely free of hormones and antibiotics.” So there, at least you know what you are eating.

mmexport14713151387465. It’s fun. A business has to have good products and good marketing strategy to be successful. Shack Shack has both. Never ending clever marketing ideas have surely helped Shake Shack become one of the fastest-growing  food chains since its founding. Who doesn’t want some fun? People love getting involved and sharing their experiences with Shake Shack on social media.

6. Shake shack has The. Best. milk shakes. You just have to try it yourself.

7. It’s also cool to be able to have wine or bottled beer with your burgers and fries from a fast food restaurant. Well it’s not really fast food place, is it? It’s way better than that.

mmexport1471315820329From a hot dog car inside Madison Square Park to publish company with restaurants in 100 locations all over the world, Shake Shack has come a long way. You know what they say now? If you haven’t seen the Statue of Liberty and haven’t had Shake Shack in New York, you haven’t been to New York!

Do you sometimes feel that no matter what you have tried over the years you can never seem to lose the weight that you want to get off? Those last 5 kilos or so can always prove to be the most difficult to get rid of and when you hit that wall… that’s it!  You feel defeated and tend to go back to bad eating habits so you gain weight again. To add to all of that, you never seem to have enough energy that you need to really tackle your exercise routine the way you want to. What to do if you find yourself trapped in this vicious circle all of the time? Apart from strong will power and self – discipline, is there anything else can help us with both energy and weight loss so we can stay on track to our health goals?

It is very easy in today’s world to find ourselves falling behind when it comes to exercise routines and diets. Most people today are constantly on the go from the moment they wake up until they finally get to bed at night. Work days are longer, there are more responsibilities at home and many times you find yourself hitting three o’clock in the afternoon and wishing it were time for bed. You just have no energy left to get through the work day, never mind your chores at home or getting to the gym. This means you end up skipping workouts, eating junk food or processed food for dinner because it is easy and then you feel even worse, with less energy to do anything.

How to  break free of the bad habits? Many people are taking supplements such as multivitamin, fish oil to help with energy and weight control. Let’s face it, who doesn’t want to have endless energy and a fit, attractive body? But each person is different and there are so many choices out there, what is the best for you? Before taking on any natural energy supplement, make sure you always consult with your doctor or health professionals to see if it can be the right supplement to help you. You want to make sure you investigate the supplements you are considering fully so you can be sure that it’s safe and effective. There are information sites like Brain Enhancement Advisor providing detailed reviews on the top supplements and nootropics today and what will work best to help you gain energy and keep on the best weight loss track.

No matter what we choose to do in life, our body is always the most valuable asset of ours. So let’s keep being healthy as our top priority, FOREVER. Set an achievable health goal, then stick to your realistic exercise routine & healthy diet. Don’t worry, you get right back on track when you fall off as long as you keep trying. Is there really any shortcut to stay healthy? I don’t think so. At least I haven’t found one.

Persistent. Persistent. Persistent. Being healthy is a life long commitment.

What do you do when you are not feeling your best? I’d love to hear from you.

Needless to say, New York is the home of many famous Skyscrapers. Do you remember the Empire State Building in movies like Sleepless in Seattle or Oblivion where it’s always romantic and widely empty for just two lovers to meet (whether the first time or not)? Well you know it, that only happens in the movies; the reality is that the Empire State Building observation deck on 86th floor would probably be a very frustrating place for a blind date because it’s always jam packed.  Millions of people from all over the world come to the top of Empire state building to admire the ever impressive skyline of Manhattan. Can you see all the other skyscrapers?

Ayutthaya thailand-12One of the highlights of my Thailand trip this year was visiting Ayutthaya, a World Heritage City and historic capital of Thailand.

On the way from Bangkok to Ayutthaya, we visited the the Summer Palace of King Rama V with its mixture of Thai, Chinese and Gothic architecture.

By the time we got to Ayutthaya historic park around 10:30am, it was burning hot already. But the heat couldn’t stop me from running around, staring at everything in awe. This once glittering, vibrant capital city was destroyed by the Burmese in the 18th century. Can you imagine its formal glory?

darts

Playing darts is a fun way to spend time with your friends or family and get some excise, especially at night in Winter when it’s cold outside and there’s not much to do.

New dart players and beginners are often found getting confused about the best tool for their game given a great deal of equipment that is available in the darts online store to choose from. Like any other game, there is simply no dearth of the types of darts available to the market. Each type is differentiated from the other type by their design, weight, size and shape. So, now the question is how to start the search for the best fit of dart for you. Read on to find out some of the basic guidelines that will help you make the right choice.

A note to be mindful about before you begin

As what the usual case is, beginners end up changing their darts every week or way faster than how it should be. If you too resort to this habit, no matter how hard you try, you will never be able to become a better dart player. This is, however, not to stop you from exploring other styles and games. But explore till you find the best fit of dart style and then work upon it. Do not wander off this particular style while you are tempted to practise some more different games. And remember, how you throw the dart is more important than what you throw.

Know the barrel

In the entire dart’s body, the barrel (the tungsten, middle part of the dart) is the only part which is the most important. Why it is so much important is because it affects the throw most significantly. Actually, it is the part where the point of weight of the dart lies. You, however, can pick any dart from the massive range of weights available to the market. As a matter of fact, the standard weight of darts is 21-27 grams. But, if you wish to have darts a little heavier or lighter than the standard range, you can have without any problem. Most of the dart veterans believe that the beginners should start with the 24 grams mark (the average of the standard range) and then adjust from there gradually. And do not worry if you are not able to concur with any of the dart veterans’ styles or suggestions. It might be just that you would have different preference. Plus, there is another thing about barrel, which is grip. Even the grips are not spared from varieties which go from darts without a grip to darts with heavy knurling. As it is, the heavier the knurl, the easier would it be for the player to make a grip on the dart in question. But again, you can find some other knurl serving your purpose.

More about accessories including shafts and flights

Like barrel, the need for shafts and flights is equally felt. Shafts are the part above the barrel which are usually made of plastic or metal. Both of these accessories are economical and convenient to replace. So, do not worry about changing them. The thing with flights and shafts is that they can worn out very easily as soon as a dart hit another dart in the board or at the time of bouncing out or when the shaft bend or snap. That’s that! About shaft, it is only the length that needs to be considered. If you are the kind of player throwing darts with pace and power, then chances are that a shorter shaft can work for you. And a longer shaft can work for you if yours is a loftier, lighter throw. Besides, flights too follow the footsteps of shafts and barrels and are available in all shapes and sizes. Talk about the most common, it is the kite shape and the teardrop shape.

Are you ready? Let’s go play!

Having seen so many Buddhas in Thailand, it wasn’t exactly my plan to see the Big Buddha in Pattya but we kind of bumped into it one day.  It was a hot and steamy morning and I went for a hike to look for the Pattaya tourist centre in hope of getting some local knowledge.  It turned out, that tourist centre was almost impossible to find; as I finally got there, it was obvious that I was the only visitor there and the two girls working there hardly spoke any English.

The good news was, I found some maps and according to one of the maps, we were directly under the top of the hills where the Big Buddha located. It was quite a hike all the way up and by the time we finally reached the top, I was soaking wet. On the upside, I also achieved the most steps within one day. Bonus!

pattaya big buddha You can’t miss the Walking Street if you are in Pattaya. If you want a Turkish ice cream? Try your luck with this man. It was so funning watching all his tricks in delivering the ice cream to his customers. He is so good and I think you can even find him on Youtube.

Another tourist attraction on my list to visit in Pattaya apart from the Sanctuary of Truth is Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden. It looked amazing in the pictures and had really good reviews on Trip Adviser. When we finally got there, I realised it was such an artificial, tacky tourist trap. There were fake plastic animals everywhere which really destroyed the beautiful of any botanical garden.

Nevertheless, I tried my best to beautify this garden in photos too – as you do.
